ASA Special Rules
The MORLracing.com ASA series will follow all the same set of rules as the other MORL series with a few exceptions. These are all in place to make the ASA series more like the real series.
Click here for the complete rules from the MORL
Rule 1 - Track Weather
- The ASA series will use real weather. This will be checked at the time of the race during the driver meeting. Drivers will have to check the forecast to get an idea of what the weather will be like so they can set up the car. The weather page for the ASA series can be found here. The cloudy rules will be as follows. Partly cloudy or sunny will be set to clear. Mostly cloudy, overcast, or cloudy will be set to cloudy. If the wind is in between directions we will use what ever the first one is. An example is NNW (north, northwest). We would use just north.
Rule 2 - Pit Stops
- There is a 2 pit stop minimum for the races. This is the same rule as in the ASA series. The pit stop frequency will be set to 2x and the fuel tanks will be 13 gallon so this should make it that all drivers will need 2 pit stops. However if a driver could manage to stretch it he will have to come in and take a splash of gas. The penalty for only making 1 stop is a 2 lap deduction in the final results. Here is the rule as started in the ASA rulebook "ASA Rulebook, Section I, Subsection G Race Procedure, Revised Item 37: All events require a minimum number of pit stops unless otherwise specified on the Official Entry Blank or by the Race Director. Failure to make the minimum number of mandatory pit stops will make the competitor subject to penalty specified by the Race Director in the drivers' meeting. In races of 250 or fewer laps, drivers are required to make a minimum of two (2) pit stops. A pit stop consists of bringing the car down pit road at or below the pit road speed limit, stopping completely in the assigned pit box and returning to the track."
Rule 3 - Maximum number of cautions by 1 driver
- There is a 2 caution max per driver during the race. It is understood that this is a short track league however drivers are expected to race as cleanly and as patient as possible. If you cause 2 yellows during the race you are required to park the car. This can be spinning out another driver or a solo spin. If you are caught up in an accident it will not count against your total. The replay will not be checked to see how many cautions any driver has caused so it is an "on your honor" type of rule. If it is found after the race is over that a driver didn't park the car and then caused a 3rd caution a stiff penalty will be given. It should range from 50-100 points as well as a lose of finances.
Rule 4 - Bankrupt drivers
- In the event a drivers finances go into the red during the season and attempts to enter a race he will be forced to take a provisional qualifying start. After 3 races in the red the ASA will put the driver into an ASA sponsored car.
Rule 5 - Pre Race Shootout
- In a pre race shootout the top 3 finishers from the prevoius week must take provisional starting spots. The shootout is run without cautions. Any driver that causes an accident that is determined to be agressive will not be allowed to race in the next shootout.
The ASA Series director or MORL admin can modify or add to the rules at any time. However the grandfather rule is in affect for changes. This means that new rules don't go into effect until the next race run by the series.
